Joachim Badenhorst started playing clarinet at the age of 7. At the Royal Conservatory where he took lessons from John Ruocco, Joachim started doubling on bassclarinet, tenor and soprano saxophones.
After graduating in June 2003 he started
the `Master degree` program at the same school where his teachers were Ruocco, Michael Moore and Tom Sieuwerts.
Joachim has been active in different music styles: for a few years he played in the Belgian Tango quartet Lunfardo and the Klezmer trio `On Fidldikn Mamzer`.
He performed or recorded with a.o. Dave Douglas, Ellery Eskelin, Michael Brecker, Phil Woods, Chris Speed, Loren Stillman, Hilmar Jensson, Anthony Coleman, Brad Jones, Andrew D`Angelo, Mats Eilertsen, Brice Soniano, Mark Turner, Mikkel Ploug,
Sissel Vera Pettersen.
These days he is mostly involved in jazz-improvisation projects in different European countries. Currently he is a member of the Han Bennink trio.
